Roland DG has launched the VersaStudio BY2-20, a compact direct-to-film (DTF) printer aimed at businesses seeking a production-ready solution for apparel decoration and customised products.

Designed for applications including T-shirts, sportswear, workwear, accessories and décor items, the CMYK plus white printer has been developed to provide consistent output and simplify DTF production workflows.

According to Roland DG, the BY2-20 combines print hardware, software, inks, media and support within a single ecosystem. The workflow incorporates Connect Designer for artwork creation, VersaWorks 7 for print preparation and Roland DG Connect for monitoring and maintenance.

The company says features such as refined ink flow, internal temperature control and large-capacity white ink cartridges are intended to support stable production and continuous printing. Automatic white underbase generation is also included to help streamline output.

“With the BY2-20, we set out to redefine expectations for compact Direct-To-Film printing,” said Ryugo Nimura, executive officer, Global Sales and Marketing Division at Roland DG. “This is a professional, production-ready solution delivering consistent quality, integrated simplicity, and dependable day-to-day performance. By bringing together hardware, software, inks, media and support into a single workflow, we’re helping businesses protect their reputation by producing professional-quality apparel they can rely on.”

The BY2-20 is designed for use in smaller production environments and by users new to DTF printing, while also offering the reliability required for professional operations.

In addition to DTF output, the system includes standalone cutting capability, allowing users to produce heat-transfer vinyl graphics. Roland DG says this enables the creation of effects such as metallic, glitter and holographic finishes, helping businesses broaden their product offering from a single device.

The printer uses OEKO-TEX Eco Passport-certified S-PG2 inks and S-Powder consumables.
