Core Exhibitions has expanded its production capabilities with the installation of a Mimaki UJV55-320 UV LED roll-to-roll printer from CMYUK, marking the company’s first move into super-wide textile printing. The investment supports its aim to deliver a fully self-sufficient production service for exhibitions and event environments.

The Oxfordshire-based business already runs a Mimaki flatbed, CNC digital cutter and several roll-to-roll printers. The new 3.2m system becomes part of a busy production hub supporting a broad range of event and display output.

“The Mimaki just ticked every box,” said director Steve Clements. “It does exactly what we need, beautifully and reliably, and it was at the right price point. It’s easy to use, the quality’s great, and it’s built for busy production.”

Founded in 2019, Core Exhibitions focuses on portable and modular display systems with an emphasis on flexibility and reduced environmental impact. The business provides a complete service from design to installation. Like many in the events sector, it faced significant challenges during the pandemic but regrouped with fresh investment and now reports strong growth.

“Coming out of COVID, we were a completely different animal,” said Mr Clements. “Our investor helped us stabilise and invest in the right technology. Since then, we’ve built a brilliant team, upgraded our kit, and we’re in the strongest position we’ve ever been.”

The Mimaki UJV55-320 is enabling new work in super-wide textile applications including lightboxes, tension frames and single piece wallcoverings. Core has also invested in an automated sewing machine to support rising textile volumes, with opportunities in trade printing through Innov8 Displays and Space Display UK.

The printer runs UFabrik materials supplied by CMYUK, including PVC-free Blackback and Backlit ECO options. “The Mimaki and UFabrik combination gives us a complete solution,” explained Mr Clements. “It means we can print every part of a stand or event space ourselves, from rigid panels to soft fabrics, and know the quality’s consistent throughout.”

Mr Clements also highlights support from CMYUK’s commercial director Sue Hayward and sales director Chris Martin. “CMYUK really understands where you’re coming from. It’s not just about selling you a printer, it’s about helping you build a stronger business,” Mr Clements said.

With a new mezzanine production area, upgraded offices and a team of 11, Core Exhibitions says the investment completes its aim of producing all output in-house. “For the first time, we can produce absolutely everything in-house,” added Mr Clements. “It’s the independence we’ve always dreamed of.”
